Tiny Expo 2023 Poster & Animation

Tiny Expo is an annual indie art and craft fair hosted by The Ann Arbor District Library (AADL). I absolutely loved this opportunity to collaborate with AADL's team to create the poster art and marketing assets for their event! They saw that I do animation and motion art and commissioned me to animate the poster design as well.

Because Tiny Expo is a December market, one of my idea proposals was to make a variant off my Cactus Cats and create a poster featuring Holiday Cactus Cats, since this is the time holiday cacti typically bloom and it would be nice to have something colorful in our grey wintry months. I’m so glad their team agreed and was thrilled to see my poster around my hometown.

The Ferrying Harp Fairies

The client’s daughter plays the harp, a large instrument that often needs multiple friends and family members to help transport it to and from performances and other shows. They started referring to themselves as The Harp Ferry. The client wanted a design that she could print on shirts, buttons, and musician parking signage to be displayed in their car; and also hoped I could do some kind of wordplay with “ferry” and “fairy.”

For this design, I took inspiration from musical elements, especially music notes, and will-o’-the-wisps, which are like little fairy motes. I used these concepts and motifs to create a scalable graphic for the client to produce for her daughter and team.
