Plushies as Fine Art
Plushies can be more than just toys. They can become 3-dimensional wall art that adds some depth to your home decor, soft sculptures and objects that are delicate in their details but not fragile, and art installations that bring delight and interest to a display window of a storefront.
That Derpy Tiger from KPop Demon Hunters
© 2025
I don’t often create fan art, but this beloved beast from the movie KPop Demon Hunters inspired me to sew my own version! I think I’m so drawn to the character because it’s a beautiful blend of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland (one of my childhood favorites) and equally silly-looking creatures featured in old East Asian art. I read that the character artists were inspired by minhwa, Korean folk art created by unknown artists who weren’t formally trained. This art reminds me of the also-crazy-eyed dragon drawings and lion sculptures I remember from my youth as a Chinese-American.

Year of the Dragon(fly)

...is The Year of the Dragon so I decided it would be appropriate to finally create dragonfly soft sculptures! Naturally, one is a Dragonfruit Dragonfly.

A Pot of Cactus Cats

My first soft sculpture piece, created for ArtPrize and featuring my Cactus Cat plush friends, along with some additional cacti.

Sandwiches & Cookies at the Bakery
© 2021
My first art installation was for Matty J’s Bakery and Cafe, a shop in Saline, Michigan specializing in sandwiches and cookies. Two of their customer favorites were specialty grilled cheese sandwiches and chocolate cookies, so I used that as inspiration for their storefront window display.
